The story

The bridge and the tennis club

The resort is named after the old bridge in its gardens, which crosses the Nagüeles stream. It is traditionally called Roman, but local heritage records suggest it is probably later, possibly built on Roman foundations, and it may be linked to the old Via Augusta. Architect Eugenio Vargas Izquierdo designed the complex around the stream and the bridge in 1973.

The tennis club opened in 1979 with Björn Borg, and Manolo Santana ran it from 1983. Today it has eight clay courts, a central court with seating for 2,500, a plexipave court and eight padel courts, and it has hosted ATP, WTA, Fed Cup and Davis Cup events.
