Step by step

How villa dining works

1. Brief

You tell us the dates, the number of guests, any diets and the mood: a relaxed barbecue, a long family lunch or a white-tablecloth dinner.

2. Menu

The chef proposes a menu. You adjust it until it is right, including dishes for children and anyone with allergies.

3. On the day

The chef arrives a few hours early, with the shopping done, and works in the villa kitchen. Waiting staff set the table if they are part of the booking.

4. Service and clean-up

Dinner is served course by course or family style. The team clears up and leaves the kitchen as they found it.

Formats that work in a Marbella villa

Format

Seated dinner party

A tasting menu or three courses, served at the table. The classic choice for a birthday, the last night of a trip or a rehearsal dinner before a Marbella wedding.

Format

Barbecue by the pool

Grilled fish, meat and vegetables, salads and sides, served while everyone stays in swimwear. Easy for mixed ages.

Format

Sharing plates and paella

Andalusian-style sharing plates, or a paella cooked outside in front of the group. Relaxed, social and great for lunch.

Format

Breakfast and brunch

A cooked breakfast or a late brunch after a big night out, set up by the pool.

Format

A chef for the whole stay

Breakfast, lunch and dinner planned across the week, often with a day off when you eat out. Popular with families and longer stays.

Format

Themed nights

A sushi night, an Italian evening or a cooking class with the chef. A good way to change the rhythm of a week.

The price

What shapes the price

There is no single price for a private chef in Marbella, and you should be wary of anyone quoting one without asking questions. The quote depends on a few things.

Guests
More guests means more food and usually more staff
Menu
A tasting menu with premium produce costs more than a barbecue
Ingredients
Either built into the quote or charged at cost on receipts
Staff
Waiters and a bartender are usually priced separately from the chef
Days
A chef for a week is priced differently from a one-off dinner
Extras
Wine, equipment hire, flowers, travel and tax

Our private chef service is priced on request. Tell us your plans and we come back with a clear quote that lists what is included.

Before you book

Questions to ask before you book

A good chef will ask most of these questions first. If they don’t, ask them yourself so there are no surprises on the night.

All 14 questions to ask
  • 01 How many guests, and are there children?
  • 02 Any allergies, intolerances or diets (vegan, halal, kosher, gluten-free)?
  • 03 One dinner, or meals every day of the stay?
  • 04 Seated dinner, sharing plates, buffet or barbecue?
  • 05 Who shops for the ingredients, and are they on the quote or billed at cost?
  • 06 Is a waiter or bartender included, and how many?
  • 07 Who sets the table, and who clears up and leaves the kitchen clean?
  • 08 Does the villa kitchen have what the chef needs (oven, grill, enough plates and glasses)?
  • 09 Is wine pairing offered, or do you buy your own?
  • 10 Is IVA (Spanish VAT) included in the price?
  • 11 Is travel to the villa included?
  • 12 What is the deposit and the cancellation policy?
  • 13 Can the chef do a tasting or share sample menus in advance?
  • 14 Are allergen details given in writing for each dish?

Diets

Allergies and special diets

Share allergies and intolerances at the menu stage, not on the day. Under EU food rules, food businesses have to tell customers when any of the 14 main allergens are in a dish, so ask for allergen details in writing.

Vegan, vegetarian, halal, kosher-style and gluten-free menus are all possible with notice.

The setting

Choosing a villa for private dining

If dining in is a big part of your trip, choose the villa with that in mind: a full kitchen, an outdoor dining table that seats the whole group and, ideally, a barbecue.

We can tell you which of our villas suit a chef best before you book, and our villa rental checklist covers what else to ask.

Insider tips

Tips for a great night in

  • Book early in summer. The best chefs are booked weeks ahead in July and August.
  • Give an honest headcount. Tell the chef about late arrivals and children so portions are right.
  • Plan the timing. Agree when you want to sit down; Spanish dinners start late, but you set the pace at home.
  • Check the kitchen. Tell the chef about the villa kitchen in advance, or ask us to.
  • Mix it up. Over a week, combine a chef dinner, a barbecue and a night out at a restaurant.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How much does a private chef cost in Marbella?

It depends on the number of guests, the menu, the ingredients, staff and how many days you need. Our private chef service is priced on request, with a clear quote of what is included.

Does the chef bring the ingredients?

Usually yes. The chef shops for the menu, and the cost is either part of the quote or charged at cost against receipts. Agree which before you book.

Can a private chef cater for allergies?

Yes. Share allergies and diets when the menu is planned, and ask for allergen details in writing for each dish.

Do I need waiters as well as a chef?

For a seated dinner for more than a few people, a waiter makes the night easier. Waiters and bartenders are usually booked and priced separately.

How far ahead should I book?

Two to four weeks ahead in summer, and earlier for big celebrations or a chef for the whole stay.

Can I have a chef for my whole stay?

Yes. Many families book a chef for breakfast, lunch and dinner through the week, with a night off to eat out.
